In recent years, health centers have become increasingly interested in and charged with not only addressing the health concerns of their patients, but centering and responding to patient’s social needs. According to Healthy People 2030, social needs, also known as the social determinants of health, are the conditions in the environments where people live, learn, work, and play that affect a wide range of health, functioning, and quality-of-life outcomes and risks. Social needs encompass the quality of and access to resources such as housing, transportation, safety, employment, food, and more. Identifying and addressing unmet social needs as part of the clinical encounter provides the opportunity to deliver higher-quality, whole-person care, advance population health, and reduce healthcare costs.

The Health Information Technology, Evaluation, and Quality Center (HITEQ) hosted this webinar on promising and innovative practices for the use of health information technologies (IT) to enhance opioid use disorder (OUD) treatment. The discussion focused on how various health information technology practices and tools, including electronic health records and prescription drug monitoring programs, can be used to enhance OUD services and specifically medication assisted treatment (MAT). The webinar also featured the experiences and practices of health centers which are currently using health IT to enhance OUD services..

HRSA’s Bureau of Primary Health Care (BPHC) is pleased to offer a webinar hosted by the SAMHSA- HRSA Center for Integrated Health Solutions that will address strategies to leverage health information technology and technologies that support population health management and data aggregation to facilitate and sustain behavioral health interventions. Presenters will share best practices for health centers in streamlining and sustaining behavioral health workflows and maximizing their electronic health record to ensure comprehensive and accurate billing and coding.

The webinar reviewed the current state of electronic dental records (EDRs) for health centers, discussed their use and integration with electronic health records, and instructed participants on how to use an EDR to meet various incentive programs and reporting requirements.

This webinar discussed health center provider engagement from the three pillars of executive sponsorship, training and education, and governance throughout the life-cycle management of the electronic health record (EHR) system. The presenter discussed the four phases of EHR lifecycle - EHR selection, EHR implementation, EHR functionality deployment, and EHR optimization. This webinar was a HITEQ/STAR² Center collaboration.
