Counting Nurses With Confidence: Ensuring Accurate Data Capture for UDS and More

HITEQ Center, July 2026

By documenting and measuring nursing contributions effectively, health centers can enhance the comprehensive picture of their productivity reported to UDS, strengthen funding support, and successfully promote integrated, nurse-centered care models. This resource, created by the HITEQ Center in partnership with the National Nurse-led Care Consortium, provides recommendations to ensure health centers are appropriately reflecting nursing care in UDS and, where UDS is more limited, share strategies for documenting, tracking, and measuring nursing care in other systems. It equips health centers with practical strategies to fully capture and demonstrate the impact of their nursing workforce through analyzing and redesigning workflows, implementing integrated documentation, capturing complex activities, and connecting data to financial outcomes.
