The Case for Health Information Exchange

Evidence of HIE impact for Health Centers

There is building evidence in the literature that health centers – compared to ambulatory practices more generally – have much to gain by participating. This is because of health centers’ high rate of recognition as Patient Centered Medical Homes (PCMH), health centers’ capacity to provide care coordination resources, which can make use of HIE data, and health centers’ achievement advanced EHR use for population health and quality.

This document summarizes existing literature evidence on the impact and benefits of HIE in settings similar to health centers.
