HITEQ Skill Builder Series: Ready for Anything: Cyber Preparedness for Health Centers

Use Case III: AI in the Health Center – Implications and Considerations

Session Description: This training explored the growing role of artificial intelligence in health center operations, with a focus on both the opportunities and risks AI presents. Topics included an overview of AI applications in clinical and administrative workflows, AI-driven cybersecurity threats facing health centers, and practical strategies for defense. There was a live demonstration of AI-powered phishing generation and detection that illustrated how attackers can use AI to craft highly convincing, targeted phishing emails — and how the same technology can be leveraged to identify and neutralize these threats in real time. The session also addressed responsible AI governance, workforce readiness, vendor risk considerations, and alignment with HIPAA, Healthcare and Public Health Cybersecurity Performance Goals, and other federal compliance frameworks relevant to health centers.

Series Description:
This learning pathway is a structured series designed to equip health center staff with the knowledge and skills needed to protect their organization from cyber threats. Moving beyond basic security measures, this progression covers the full spectrum of cyber preparedness—from identifying vulnerabilities and understanding common attack vectors to developing incident response plans. Participants will engage in practical use cases and interactive sessions to build a robust defense strategy, ensuring their health center is resilient, prepared, and ready for anything in today's digital landscape.
