Overview

The HHS-wide initiative Ending the HIV Epidemic: A Plan for America seeks to leverage the powerful data and tools now available to reduce new HIV infections in the United States by 75 percent in five years and by 90 percent by 2030. HITEQ is identifying best practices and barriers to using health IT to support early diagnosis, application of proven prevention interventions including access to PrEP, and sustained treatment for people living with HIV to achieve and maintain viral suppression.

Privacy and Data Sharing Considerations | HITEQ Learning Collaborative

This health center learning collaborative series presented health center case examples that explore the privacy and data sharing considerations of EHR documentation of sensitive patient information, such as social history and social risk, and encouraged participants to discuss the implications for health centers and their patients. 

Session 3, February 23, 2022: Considerations when Documenting Risk of Acquiring HIV and/ Gender Identity and Sexual Orientation

The National LGBTQIA+ Health Education Center (part of Fenway) presented a case example involving risk of acquiring HIV and use of PrEP for group discussion on the cross-cutting sensitive information and documentation considerations that present. The case example was followed by a facilitated discussion about related documentation, coding, privacy, and data sharing.
